John has worked in the counseling field for over 25 years. He is both a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and Missouri.  After completing his master’s degree at Villanova University, he began working at the JFK Community Mental Health Center in Philadelphia and soon after joined the Counseling Center at Drexel University in its inaugural year.  John was with Drexel for 19 years helping to grow the services offered by the Counseling Center, in part, by creating the CHOICES Center for Office of Alcohol, Other Drug, and Health which offered many specialized programs and services including outreach/education, prevention programs, early intervention, individual and group counseling, recovery support as well as stabilizing The Haven at Philadelphia and residential colligate recovery program.  While at Drexel John also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Behavioral Health Counseling, Psychology, and Health Services and Administration programs. John followed this by serving as the Director for Counseling Services at Holy Family University. At the same time John joined Jeremy Frank and Associates, a group practice that specializes in the treatment of alcohol use and substance use disorders, as a Clinical Associate.   John has served as Chair of the US Department of Education’s Network Addressing Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drugs Issues (a consortium of over 1900 colleges and universities), a board member of the Mazzoni Center for LGBTQ Health and Wellness, as a member of the both the inaugural organizational Advisory Committee as well as the Training Advisor Committee for the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery, and as the Chair of the Professional Advocacy and Public Awareness Committee of  the American College Counseling Association

Some of the presenting issues and concerns I have worked a great deal with include anxiety, depression, relationships (familial,  romantic, friendships), substance use disorders of all kinds, issues/concerns related to sexuality, sexual identity, gender identity and expression as well as grief and loss, Some of the populations I have worked with include young adults, late adolescents, LGBTQ+  individuals and their families, people in recovery from substance use disorders, and more recently neurodivergent individuals and adults caring for aging parents. My therapeutic approach focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship while focusing on how experiences and relationships shape our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
